COURSE DESCRIPTION

Headaches and migraines are among the most common conditions massage therapists encounter—and often some of the most challenging to address effectively.

This 1-day, hands-on seminar provides a clear, structured approach to assessing and treating these conditions with confidence and precision.

You’ll learn practical, results-driven techniques designed to reduce pain, improve function, and create longer-lasting outcomes—while minimizing strain on your own body.

COURSE STRUCTURE

This is a 1-day, hands-on seminar follows the massage protocol "Medical Massage for Chronic Headache and Migraine" and is presented on behalf of the Science of Massage Institute.

• Headache & Migraine Pain Relief

This class takes students through all aspects of Chronic Tension Headache and Migraines, from clinical evaluation of the soft tissues and local pathology to step-by-step treatment using the Medical Massage Protocol. 

This Medical Massage protocol is recognized and currently used in several hospitals, including world-renowned clinical and scientific institutions such as the Barrow Neurological Institute. Several of our students have built their entire practice around the clinical effectiveness of Medical Massage Protocols for Chronic Headaches.

The day includes live demonstration, guided practice, and real-world clinical application.

• Massage table (1 per 2 attendees)
• Linens
• Lotion or oil
• Notepad
• Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages


WHAT TO WEAR

Loose, comfortable clothing is required.
Shorts and tank tops are strongly recommended to allow proper access for hands-on work.


LOCATION & TRAVEL

This seminar may be offered in multiple locations on the same weekend.

Please refer to the course calendar to review the specific cities being considered for this event.

The final seminar location will be determined based on registration demand, with the course held in the city that has the highest number of registered attendees.

The confirmed location will be announced 2 weeks prior to the course date.

NCBTMB APPROVAL & COURSE DESIGNATION

This seminar is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) under the course designation of Medical Massage.

While this course is presented under a condition-specific title, the content, structure, and CE hours are aligned with the approved Medical Massage curriculum.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate issued by Spartan Continuing Education Seminars in association with the Science of Massage Institute.

This certificate may be used toward continuing education requirements and may also be applied toward certification as a Medical Massage Practitioner through the Science of Massage Institute.


EDUCATIONAL FRAMEWORK

This seminar is presented using the structured methodology developed by the Science of Massage Institute.

The content and treatment protocols follow the same foundational approach used in the Institute’s headache and migraine treatment training programs and are consistent with the educational model developed by Dr. Ross Turchaninov.
